What a Flat MDM Price Means for a Small Business

What one flat price per device means in practice: no feature gates, no tier to outgrow, a budget you can work out in your head, and a free trial.

One price per device means the number on the pricing page is the number on your bill. Every feature is in it, it does not change as you grow, and you can work out next year’s cost on the back of an envelope. For NounDesk that price is $1.50 per device per month.

Here is the scene it is meant to fix. The owner of a small property maintenance business has three price lists open in three tabs. Each has a Basic, a Pro and an Enterprise column. Remote wipe is in Pro on one, kiosk mode is in Enterprise on another, and the third changes price above 25 devices. She has ten phones today and plans to hire. After an hour she still cannot say what she would pay in a year.

This post is about what a single flat price changes in practice. For the wider question of what device management costs and where the hidden costs sit, read our breakdown of MDM cost for a small business.

What “every feature” covers

With one plan there is no column to compare. The same $1.50 covers the whole product:

  • QR-code and zero-touch enrollment, with enrollment profiles.
  • The dashboard, device inventory, alerts and fleet health charts.
  • Security policy templates, version history and data protection.
  • App management through Google Play, including private apps.
  • Remote lock, reboot, lost mode and erase.
  • Kiosk mode, website filtering, and remote support through your own TeamViewer, AnyDesk or Splashtop licence.
  • Device Trust and factory reset protection.
  • Groups, employees and unlimited administrators.
  • Reports, CSV downloads, the audit log and company documents.
  • Email support.

The pricing page has the current list. The point is not the length of it. The point is that you never meet a feature you need and find it behind an upgrade.

No feature gates means no second decision

On a tiered plan you decide twice. Once when you buy, and again the first time you need something that sits one column to the right.

That second decision tends to arrive at a bad moment. A phone goes missing and lost mode is in the higher tier. A client asks for an audit log and it is an add-on. You end up upgrading the whole fleet to use one feature on one day.

With one price, the day you need kiosk mode for a front-desk tablet, you turn it on. Nothing changes on the bill except the extra tablet.

Growing past a tier that does not exist

Tiered pricing is often built around a device count. One rate up to a number, a higher rate above it. Adding one phone can change the price of every phone.

A flat price has no such line. The cost of each new phone is the same as the last one. Here is what that looks like:

Fleet Per month Per year
10 phones $15 $180
15 phones $22.50 $270
30 phones $45 $540
50 phones $75 $900

There is no minimum. One phone is fine. If you manage more than 50 devices, the price is the same, but email support@noundesk.com first so the setup suits a fleet that size.

Budgeting with one number

The budget is one multiplication. Devices times $1.50 is the month. Devices times $18 is the year.

That makes planning easy to explain to a partner or an accountant. If you plan to hire five technicians in spring, the extra cost is $7.50 a month. Seasonal staff are the same sum in reverse.

Billing is monthly. There is no annual contract and no prepay discount to weigh against flexibility. Prices are in US dollars, and taxes may apply depending on your location.

The one cost the price does not cover is your own time to set up each phone. Count it once, at rollout.

From trial to paid

The trial is the same product as the paid plan. It lasts 14 days, covers up to 50 devices, and needs no card. You can also explore a sample fleet in demo mode before you enroll anything.

Nothing is charged during the trial, and no card is needed to start. To keep going after day 14, the Owner starts a subscription from the Billing page.

Here is how to start a subscription, as set out in the billing guide. Only the Owner role can do this.

  1. Go to Billing and set the Number of devices. The monthly total updates as you type. For example, 15 devices is $22.50.
  2. Select Start subscription to pay securely through Stripe.
  3. Later, use Manage billing to change the number of devices, update your card or cancel.

Cancelling keeps your devices managed until the end of the paid period. You are not charged again after that.

The honest limits

One price, one kind of device. The price covers company-owned Android phones and tablets running Android 8 or newer. It does not cover iPhones, Windows laptops or personal phones, because NounDesk does not manage them.

Self-serve stops at 50. Above 50 devices the price does not change, but you email support@noundesk.com first rather than signing up straight away.

Only the Owner sees billing. Admins and other roles cannot start, change or cancel the subscription.

Cheap is not the same as right. A low price is only worth it if the tool does what you need. Use the trial to check that on your own phones. Our look at free vs paid Android MDM covers what to test for.

What to do this week

  1. Count your devices and multiply by $1.50. That is your monthly cost. Times twelve is your year.
  2. Add the phones you expect to hire for. Do the same sum. With a flat price, the answer grows in a straight line.
  3. List the three features you need most. Check each one is in the plan you are looking at, not one tier up.
  4. Start the trial on a handful of real phones. Enroll the ones your busiest staff carry, not the spare in the drawer.
  5. Decide before day 14. If it works for you, start the subscription from Billing.

FAQ

Is there really only one NounDesk plan?

Yes. It is $1.50 per device per month with every feature included, and there is no higher tier holding anything back.

Does the price go up as I add devices?

No. Every device costs $1.50 a month at any fleet size. Above 50 devices, email support@noundesk.com first so the setup suits a fleet that size.

Do I need a card to start the trial?

No. The 14-day trial covers up to 50 devices and starts without a card. Nothing is charged until you start a subscription.

What happens if I cancel?

Your devices stay managed until the end of the period you have paid for. After that you are not charged again, and there is no annual contract to buy out.
