NounDesk, an enterprise UEM, or a spreadsheet and hope.
Enterprise UEM tools manage every kind of device for large IT departments and take days to weeks to set up. Managing by hand works until a phone is lost or an employee leaves. NounDesk sits in between: company-owned Android only, ten-minute setup, plain-English settings, per-device monthly pricing, and safety rails such as typed confirmations and no bulk erase. This page lays the three side by side without naming other vendors.
| NounDesk | Enterprise UEM tools | By hand | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it is built for | Owners, office managers and ops leads at businesses with 5–50 company Android devices and no IT staff | IT departments at large organizations managing thousands of mixed devices | Whoever has time this week |
| Setup time | About ten minutes, guided, with a live checklist | Days to weeks; often a paid implementation project | An hour per phone, every time |
| Language | "Require a 6-digit PIN." "Screen lock does not meet policy." | Compliance objects, configuration profiles, DPC, policy payloads | Sticky notes and memory |
| Devices | Company-owned Android phones and tablets, Android 8+ | Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux, wearables | Whatever people bought |
| Agent on the phone | None. Runs on Android Enterprise; Google's Android Device Policy is set up automatically | Usually a vendor agent app to install and keep updated | None |
| Price | $1.50 per device per month, one price for every feature. No tiers, no minimums, no annual contract | Per-user or per-device licences with minimums, annual contracts, tiered add-ons | Free, until a phone is lost |
| Lost phone | Lost mode with your message on the screen, location while lost, erase with factory-reset protection kept | Available, usually several menus deep | Call the carrier and hope |
| Safety rails | Typed confirmation to erase, no bulk erase, impact preview before publishing a policy, nothing erased when someone leaves | Powerful and permissive; mistakes scale | No guardrails, no record |
| Status honesty | "Waiting for device" until the phone confirms; offline means not seen | Varies; many show success on send | Unknown |
| Privacy | No calls, messages, browsing or keystrokes. Location only in lost mode | Depends on configuration; often includes location and app usage tracking | Total, but so is the risk |
| Kiosk tablets | Four-step wizard | Yes, via configuration profiles | Tape over the Home button |
| Who to call | A person at support@noundesk.com | A ticket queue | Nobody |
Which one fits you?
- You have 5 to 50 company-owned Android phones or tablets.
- Nobody on the team has "IT" in their title.
- You want the job app installed, a PIN required, and a plan for lost phones, this week.
- You want to tell employees honestly that you do not monitor calls, messages or location.
- You would rather pay per phone, monthly, than sign an annual contract.
- You manage laptops and desktops as well as phones from one console.
- You have iPhones, iPads or Windows devices that must be managed.
- You have an IT team and a budget for implementation.
- You need personal-device (BYOD) work profiles today.
- Your fleet is in the hundreds or thousands.
- You have fewer than five devices and they never hold customer data.
- Nobody would be harmed if one were lost with its contents readable.
- You are happy to set up each new phone yourself.
Most businesses grow out of this list sooner than they expect. Demo mode is free if you want to see what changes.
Comparison questions
Is NounDesk a UEM?
No, and it is not trying to be. A unified endpoint management platform manages laptops, desktops, phones and more for large IT teams. NounDesk manages company-owned Android phones and tablets for small businesses, in plain English.
What if we grow past 50 devices?
The same price applies. Email support@noundesk.com first so we can check the setup suits a fleet that size.
What if we have iPhones too?
NounDesk will not manage them. If most of your devices are Apple, you need a different tool. If a few are, many small businesses manage the Android fleet with NounDesk and leave the handful of iPhones unmanaged or on a separate tool.
Can we move from another tool to NounDesk?
Yes. Devices need a factory reset to enroll as company-owned, which is true for any management tool. Enroll a batch with one QR code and an enrollment profile, and they arrive with the right policy and apps.
Why not just manage phones by hand?
Five phones, maybe. At fifteen you cannot say which are encrypted, which have the job app, or where the missing one is. The first lost phone with customer data on it costs more than a year of NounDesk.
