Data protectionNew

Company data stays on company phones.

Data protection in NounDesk is a set of security policy settings that stop company data leaving a company Android phone. Per policy, you can block printing, SD cards and USB drives, screenshots and USB file transfer. Turn on the ones each team needs, or pick the Maximum Security template, which turns them all on. Every setting shows the Android version it needs, and the publish preview lists exactly what changes and how many devices are affected before it goes live.

How do I stop files leaving through a cable or a card?

Most data walks out on a USB cable or a memory card. Two settings close both routes.

  • Block USB file transfer, so a laptop can't pull files off the phone.
  • Block SD cards and USB drives, so nothing gets saved to removable storage.
  • Blocking USB data transfer needs Android 12 or newer.

Block screenshots and printing

A screenshot of a patient photo or a printed customer list is still a leak. Block either one per policy.

  • Block screenshots on phones that show sensitive records.
  • Block printing where paper copies shouldn't exist.
  • Leave the camera on for job photos if your team needs it. It's a separate setting.

Turn it all on with Maximum Security

For clinics and anyone holding sensitive records, the Maximum Security template turns on all four data protection settings in one step.

  • Printing, SD cards and USB drives, screenshots and USB file transfer, all blocked.
  • Change any setting before you publish.
  • The publish preview shows exactly what changes and on how many devices.

Different teams, different rules

Data protection lives in the security policy, so each team gets the settings that fit its work. The clinic can be strict while the front desk still prints.

  • Each policy has its own set of switches.
  • Every setting shows the Android version it needs.
  • Full version history, with one-click restore if a change was wrong.

A clinic phone holds patient photos. A sales phone holds the customer list. Most leaks aren't clever: a phone plugged into a home laptop, a photo saved to an SD card, a screenshot sent on. Data protection closes those doors with a few switches.

The four data protection settings

Each one is a plain switch in the security policy.

  • Printing

Stop files and pages going to a printer.

  • SD cards and USB drives

    Nothing saved to removable storage.

  • Screenshots

No screen captures on phones with sensitive data.

  • USB file transfer

A laptop plugged in can't copy files off the phone.

Data protection: questions answered

How do I stop staff copying files to a USB drive?

Block SD cards and USB drives and block USB file transfer in the security policy. The phone then can't write to a USB stick or hand files to a laptop over a cable.

Can I stop screenshots on company phones?

Yes. Turn on Block screenshots in the security policy and phones on that policy can't take them.

Can I block printing from work phones?

Yes. Block printing is a per-policy setting, so you can block it for the clinic team and leave it on for the front desk.

What does the Maximum Security template turn on?

All four data protection settings: printing, SD cards and USB drives, screenshots and USB file transfer are all blocked. Templates are starting points, so you can change any setting before you publish.

Does this work on every Android phone?

Every setting shows the Android version it needs, so you know before you publish. Blocking USB data transfer, for example, needs Android 12 or newer.
