Command statuses
When you lock, reboot, erase or send any other action to a device, NounDesk tracks it until the device answers. It never says an action is done before the device confirms it.
Who: all roles can see statuses. Sending actions needs Owner, Admin or Operator; Erase device needs Owner or Admin.
Where to see the status
- Right after you send it: a box under the device’s action buttons, for example Lock sent with Waiting for device…, then Lock completed.
- Later: the device’s Activity tab lists every action with its status badge.
The statuses
| Badge | What it means |
|---|---|
| Queued | NounDesk has recorded the action and is about to send it. |
| Waiting for device… | Sent to Google. Waiting for the device to pick it up and report back. |
| Device received | The device has the action and is working on it. |
| Completed | The device confirmed it was done. |
| Failed | The action couldn’t be sent, or the device reported an error. The reason is shown with it. |
| Expired | The device didn’t pick it up in time: “The device did not pick up the command in time. It may be offline.” |
| Unknown | NounDesk couldn’t confirm the result with Google (“Google no longer reports this command.”). |
The usual path is Queued → Waiting for device… → Completed. Google doesn’t currently report the in-between step, so you usually won’t see Device received.
Actions expire after 10 minutes. If the device doesn’t pick up an action within 10 minutes of you sending it, it’s marked Expired and isn’t carried out later.
Every action
| Action | What the device does | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Lock | Locks the screen now. The employee unlocks it with their usual PIN. | Any device |
| Reboot | Restarts. Anything unsaved is lost. Back online in about a minute. | Company-owned device, Android 7.0+ |
| Lost mode | Locks the device and shows your message, phone number and email. | Company-owned device |
| End lost mode | Removes the lost mode message and returns the device to normal use. | Company-owned device |
| Clear app data | Resets up to 20 chosen apps as if freshly installed. Employees sign in to them again. | Android 9+ |
| Refresh info | Asks the device to report its latest details. | Any device |
| Reset password | Sets a new screen lock password (6–16 letters and digits). NounDesk doesn’t keep a copy. | Company-owned device, Android 7.0+ |
| Erase device | Factory resets the device. Type ERASE to confirm. |
Any device; Owner or Admin |
Every NounDesk device runs Android 8.0 or newer, so the Android 7.0 limits are always met. Actions also need the device to be managed: on a device that’s erased, retired or still waiting to enroll, the buttons are greyed out with The device is not currently managed.
See Supported devices for the full list of version limits.
What happens to the device while it’s being erased
After you send Erase device, the device shows Erasing…. When the erase completes it becomes Erased. If the erase Failed or Expired, nothing was erased and the device goes back to Active.
When an action failed or expired
- Check the device is on and online. Look at Last seen in the header. An Offline device can’t pick up actions.
- Read the reason shown with the status, in the box under the buttons or on the Activity tab.
- Send it again once the device is back online. Each send is a new action with its own 10 minutes.
- Still failing? Contact support@noundesk.com with the device’s name and the time you sent it.
Every action is recorded in the audit log: who sent it, when, and whether it worked.
